Doctor Tanya Banfield is a certified and registered expert witness, as well as a Chartered Psychologist accredited with the British Psychological Society.
Experienced in providing written reports to support litigation in various settings including, organisational, educational, and criminal justice contexts.
Tanya specialises in report writing and providing support for workplace and public disputes related to neurodiversity, including criminal cases, for individuals who may have a diagnosis or are in the process of being diagnosed.
She is a highly qualified expert witness specialising in neurodiversity, with a focus on conditions such as ADHD and Autism.
She can collaborate with clients privately or through their legal team to thoroughly assess the impacts of neurodiversity presentations. She can provide expert witness reports by reviewing legal and medical documents, as well as historical family data, to offer a comprehensive report, summary, insights, and professional opinions and recommendations.
She is a preferred expert witness for cases requiring expertise in ADHD and Autism, providing reports to support litigation involving individuals with neurodivergent conditions that could affect their capacity and understanding in criminal cases.
With a doctorate in Health specialising in neurodiversity in the Criminal Justice system, Dr Tanya Banfield draws on her experience working with neurodivergent offenders to support criminal offence litigation.
Tanyas’ reports are delivered as independent professional opinions for the Court and have been utilised to support individuals in employment, education, and criminal justice settings.
Doctor Tanya Banfield also coaches and supports medical and Criminal Justice professionals and has provided health reports for personal independence payment tribunals.
Tanya has extensive experience in preparing expert reports and has authored numerous reports for court use, focusing on neurodivergent presentations and their impacts as potential mitigating evidence for criminal behaviour.

How to instruct Dr Banfield
- Step 1 Emails exchanged: initial enquiry to ensure Tanya is the expert you need.
- Step 2 An exploratory call: a billed call, for up to 60 minutes, via TEAMs. (Please note payment is due on confirmation of the call).
- Step 3 A quote for work: shared for approval before work begins.
- Step 4 The Client makes payment for work to begin.
- Step 5 Documentation shared:
- – If required, an assessment is scheduled (see Assessments below).
– Following the review of supplied documentation and any further clarifying correspondence, a detailed report will be created which will include professional observations, opinions and recommendations.

- Step 6 Expert Witness Report shared
Assessments
Screening and Assessments can take place between two and four hours to complete, depending on the complexity of the case. Assessments are carried out remotely where possible.
Dr Tanya Banfield will conduct the screening and refer to a partner organisation for independent diagnostic testing. This ensures her expert opinion carries more weight, as it is delivered on an independent diagnostic report. This is her chosen approach for rigour
However she can, when necessary, conduct assessment using ADD Diagnostic tools and provide a detailed assessment report.
